Famitsu.com's new web article all about newly revealed Super Street Fighter 4 character Hakan as recieved some tranlation services, courtesy of Andriasang.com. The lengthy Famitsu interview with game producer Ono talks a lot about the design ideas that went into the 10 new characters. Of interest here is the idea that the developers were trying to make characters that require different degrees of 'skill' to play. They note that Juri is for beginners, Hakan for mid to upper level players, and Dudley Ibuki and Makoto were meant expressly for the highest level players. Im not sure this notion on the design level holds water, as the degree of difficulty to master a character's move-set generally how little bearing on how effective the character is as a whole at the top level of play. If you tried to watch Capcom's stream from their Super Street Fighter 4 party at GDC, you were probably disappointed. A poor framerate, insanely bad sound, and basically no game footage made a lot of viewers feel like they were being "trolled". The good news? Some characters have options built right into their moveset to beat crouch tech.

Ryu/Akuma's EX Tatsumakis, Cammy's instant air EX dive, Rufus' dive kick, Viper's flame kick, Vega's DF+HK, and Chun-Li's Hazanshu all have airborne properties that let them float over this tech. Characters with command grabs don't need to worry very much about delayed crouch tech because their command grabs can't be teched.

Wouldn't it be nice if someone who cared about what SRK wants to know could spend some time with Super Street Fighter 4's final build, and then tell us what he saw? Wish granted, apparently. This week's issue of Famitsu magazine has leaked out across the interwebs. Sliding down the oily information super-highway and into our hearts earlier today, it would seem that Famitsu finally isnt first to reveal new Super Street Fighter 4 characters. Let me just start off by saying SFIV for iphone rocks. We got to play it recently and you would think by dumbing down a version of sf4 to make it portable it would lose alot of flavor. Nope, this game has it all, combos, chains, fadc, ease of movement. Everything is made simple, but its still incredibly fun. For example, you can turn on special move helper, and with the touch of one button you can throw a hadoken, forward + sp is the shoryuken, and back + sp is the hurricane kick. The game is incredibly good, and a great way to kill time and level up your SF game. It is incredibly authentic, and true to the SFIV game. And if you think doing ultras and supers would be hard on the iphone or ipod touch, think again. You do them by pressing the actual ultra bar or super bar. How ingenious is that? ...

A couple more top notch videos have appeared in cyberspace, this time highlighting some of the more fierce matches played in France's World Game Cup Masters Series event. This event was separate from their main SF4 tournament, and the winner would receive a free plane ticket round trip from any airport in the world to Las Vegas for Evolution 2010. The most notable videos making their rounds from Hakf's Youtube are of UK Legend Ryan Hart vs Japan Legend Daigo Umehara. This article is for those players with bad defense - the ones who always panic when stuck in block strings. If you have trouble teching throws, this is for you.

I'm just gonna say it. There is an awesome defensive option select in SF4. Many are aware it exists but don't use it consistently or don't see why it is useful (or more useful than the stand tech). If you aren't sure what an option select is, don't worry. Just understand that it's an input which techs throws while keeping you safe from other options as well.
